November 15, 2018 Problem with your ammunition “key-holing” as follows: SIG SAUER Elite Performance Ammunition SIG V-Crown 44 S&W SPL 200 Gr. Bar Code Label: #E44SP1 98681 52245 I recently purchase 200 rounds from Target Sports and test fired five rounds today in my Browning Lever Action .44 Magnum M92 rifle at a 50 yard target. (I’ll get to your ammo in a minute.) First I fired three .44 Special Hornady factory 180 gr jacketed hollow points which I have the mounted T-1 Aimpoint zeroed to, and they printed at the center of the bullseye as expected with about a 3-inch extreme spread. Then I loaded and fired three of your Elite Performance .44 Specials at the same target/same 50 yards. However, their extreme spread was more than 8-inches and in a spread-out triangular pattern about 8-inches left of the bullseye. All three bullet holes showed “key-holing” as shown in that photo attached. In short, their performance was totally unsatisfactory. I then reloaded three more Hornady’s to confirm that my sight had not moved, and sure enough they printed in the bullseye as before. So the issue is with your ammo. Other issues with your ammunition: 1. When I first unpacked your rounds, I took note of how much of the 200 gr. bullet protruded from the case mouth (see side by side photo with the Hornady 180 gr). Don’t have any idea why you would seat the bullet out that far except that is where your crimping groove is located. 2. As to the crimp, there does not appear to be any (see other photos). Typically, especially in revolvers (where I assume your .44 Special rounds are optimized), case mouths would be crimped to keep the bullets from dislodging under recoil of the other five rounds in the cylinder. 3. Powder fill (see other photo). Your choice of power barely fills half the case volume, and considering how far out you seat the bullet, I think your loading density is way off. Bottom line is I have 196 rounds I paid over a dollar each for that are of no use to me, and I’d wish you would exchange them from a lot that will group better in my rifle.
