Central to this innovation is the patented Peak Alloy case, a next-generation, one-piece design that enables higher velocities compared to traditional brass-case ammunition. This advanced design not only enhances performance but also allows for smaller, more compact rifles while providing an additional round in the magazine. Developed to solve a previously unsolvable challenge—achieving magnum velocities from shorter barrels without increasing recoil—the 7mm Backcountry sets a new standard for speed, flat trajectories, and power.
Equipped with the Berger Elite Hunter bullet, the cartridge is built for precision and impact, with a thin jacket that delivers extreme hydrostatic shock and a massive wound cavity. With a G1 ballistic coefficient of .755, it ranks among the highest-performing hunting bullets on the market. The 7mm Backcountry provides magnum velocities even through 20-inch barrels, achieving around 3000 fps with a 170-grain Terminal Ascent bullet, outperforming the 7mm PRC under similar conditions. Through a 24-inch barrel, it reaches a muzzle velocity of approximately 3150 fps, a testament to its superior engineering.
To complement this revolutionary cartridge, Federal collaborated with top gun manufacturers to ensure compatibility across a wide range of rifle platforms.
