CorBon 38 Special +P, 125 grain Jacketed Hollow Point is a high-performance self-defense and duty load engineered for compact and snub-nosed revolvers where reliable expansion and increased terminal performance matter. Tested from a 1.875 inch barrel, it produces a listed 1050 fps muzzle velocity and roughly 306 ft-lbs of energy, delivering fast, consistent expansion from close-quarters encounters. Loaded in brass with Boxer primers, noncorrosive components, and offered in 20-round boxes or bulk case packs of 500, this cartridge balances controllable recoil with enhanced stopping power for duty, concealed carry, and home defense.

Features and Specifications:

• Compact Defense Load: 125 grain JHP is optimized for short-barrel revolvers and concealed carry, offering rapid expansion and reliable terminal performance in close-quarters defensive encounters.
• Increased Velocity: +P pressure rating boosts muzzle velocity to 1050 fps from a 1.875 inch test barrel, improving energy transfer while maintaining controllable recoil in small-frame revolvers.
• Duty-Grade Construction: Jacketed hollow point design and quality control make this suitable for duty, concealed carry, or home defense where consistent performance is required.
• Reloadable Brass Cases: Uses standard brass cases and Boxer primers so handloaders can resize and reload, offering long-term cost savings for high-volume shooters.
• Noncorrosive Primers: Modern noncorrosive components protect firearms and reduce maintenance compared with older corrosive loads, supporting long service life for duty firearms.
• Packaging: For high volume shooters looking for the best value this ammo is available in 50-round boxes with free shipping on bulk purchases at Target Sports USA.

Deep Dive

Overview

CorBon’s 38 Special +P 125 grain JHP is designed specifically for personal defense and duty use, particularly in compact revolvers and concealed carry firearms. The +P pressure loading produces greater velocity than standard .38 Special, translating to stronger terminal performance and more reliable expansion. At 1050 fps from a 1.875 inch test barrel, this cartridge is optimized for short-barrel handguns that many carry for self-defense. With its balance of controllable recoil and enhanced stopping power, this round is suitable for law enforcement backup guns, concealed carry, and home defense applications.

History and Development

CorBon Ammunition, founded in 1982, earned a strong reputation for creating high-velocity defensive cartridges that maximize performance from handguns. Known for pioneering lightweight, fast-moving bullets, CorBon became a trusted name among law enforcement officers and armed citizens looking for effective stopping power.

The 38 Special +P 125 grain JHP load continues that tradition by building on the long history of the .38 Special cartridge, one of the most widely used revolver calibers in American law enforcement and civilian defense. By using +P pressures, CorBon significantly boosts velocity and energy compared to standard loads, making this cartridge a modern solution for shooters who rely on compact revolvers for defensive use.
