Rated 4.85 out of 5 across over 102 verified reviews and growing, with over 90 5-star ratings, this Federal 38 Special ammo is the classic 158 grain +P Lead Semi-Wadcutter Hollow Point known as 38G. Why Shooters Choose Federal 38 Special
- Legendary FBI Load: Federal identifies this load as the well-known FBI Load, also associated with the Dallas Load and Chicago Load names.
- 158 Grain +P Construction: The 38 Special 158 grain bullet weight and +P pressure rating give revolver shooters a traditional defensive load profile.
- Semi-Wadcutter Hollow Point Design: The flat shoulder and nose shape are intended to improve performance compared with round nose bullet profiles, while the hollow point supports expansion.
- All-Lead, Non-Jacketed Bullet: Federal’s design uses an all-lead projectile rather than a jacketed bullet, matching the classic law enforcement defense ammo configuration.
- Brass Case and Boxer Primer: The cartridge uses a brass case with a centerfire Boxer primer, a familiar setup for quality Federal ammo.
- Verified Ballistics: This federal 38 special load is rated at 890 fps muzzle velocity and 280 ft lbs muzzle energy.
- Range or Case Packaging: Available as a Box of 50 or Case of 1000, giving shoppers a simple choice between a smaller box and bulk planning.

I keep a S&W M66 in my desk drawer and this is the ammunition it contains. This is still an excellent self defense round. As always, Target Sports service is excellent.
donald f.
Great service and awesome price, especially for this hard to find ammo. I'm hoping to hit the range next week to test them out. I'll post a range report if I can.
Matthew M.
Very hard to find round and TargetSports has it! Great for target practice as it cuts a very large, clean hole. I prefer the +P as it provides a bit of extra "pop.

Classic Self defense load.
"Classic Self defense load. Very high quality, no reliability issues when fired out of my Colt King cobra. It is pretty hot 38 special +P, I would not shoot this in a 38 standard pressure revolver. It’s non-jacketed lead ammo, if your crazy about keeping your gun absolutely pristine, this is not the ammo for you, try something jacketed"
