What Customers Say
Customer feedback is strong, with a 4.87 out of 5 rating across over 277 verified reviews and growing.
Not much to say about a HST thar mist don’t know. Reliable expansion in every test i’ve seen. Doesn’t matter the caliber. The projectile expands even when shooting heavy for caliber like 147 grain 9MM.
Joseph W.
The best 40 defense available at a great price. Reliable! Every shot goes bang and has never jammed on me after shooting around 10,000 rounds.
Rick B.
Excellent performing .40 S&W ammunition produced by Federal Law Enforcement. No issues with this round great for the range. Thanks TSUSA.
Keith K.
What is the muzzle velocity of this Federal 40 S&W 165 grain HST load?
This federal 40 s&w 165 grain load has a muzzle velocity of 1130 fps. It also carries 468 ft lbs of muzzle energy.
Is Federal HST 40 S&W ammo bonded?
No. This ammunition uses a non-bonded jacketed hollow point bullet design. Federal’s HST construction is still engineered for balanced penetration and uniform expansion.
Is this 40 S&W Federal ammo hollow point load for self-defense?
Yes. Federal states this ammunition is designed for self-defense and law enforcement use. The HST jacketed hollow point design is intended for defensive performance rather than basic range use.
What case material does this federal 40 s&w ammo use?
It uses nickel-plated brass cases. Nickel plating is commonly valued in defensive handgun ammunition for smooth handling and durability.
What packaging is available for this Federal Law Enforcement 40 S&W load?
The verified packaging is Box of 50 and Case of 1000. That gives shooters a smaller option for evaluation or a case option for larger-volume needs.
Is this the same as 40 S&W 165 gr FMJ ammo?
No. This is a 165 grain HST jacketed hollow point, not FMJ. It is intended for self-defense and law enforcement use, while FMJ is generally associated with range training.
About Federal 40 S&W
Federal HST 40 S&W ammunition is built for shooters who want a jacketed hollow point load rather than a general range projectile. The non-bonded HST bullet is engineered to provide a balanced mix of penetration and uniform expansion, while the 165 grain weight keeps this load in a common defensive weight range for the caliber.
The nickel-plated brass case and Centerfire / Boxer primer support consistent ignition and reliable handling in compatible pistols. For shoppers comparing federal 40 cal ammo, federal .40 ammo, or federal HST .40 s&w options, this load is best understood as a defensive and law enforcement cartridge, not a 40 S&W 165 gr FMJ ammo substitute.
If you are shopping the 40 S&W category for Federal defensive ammunition, this 165 grain HST load is a focused option in the Federal lineup. Choose a box for evaluation or a case when you want a bulk ammo option for consistent carry-load testing and training confirmation.
