Deep Dive

Overview

This 12 gauge ammo is intended for clay target shooting, including trap, skeet, and sporting clays. The 7/8 oz payload is considered a lighter target load, helping reduce recoil while still maintaining effective pattern density. The #7.5 shot size provides slightly more reach compared to smaller shot sizes, making it suitable for a wider range of target distances. This load is commonly used in shotguns chambered for 2 3/4" shells. The higher velocity supports consistent target engagement and timing across different shooting scenarios. It is well-suited for training environments where reduced recoil and shot consistency are important over extended sessions.

History and Development

Rio has a long-standing history in ammunition manufacturing, with origins tied to the Sociedad Española de la Dinamita (SED), founded in 1872 in Spain. Over time, the company developed into a producer of cartridges for hunting and sport shooting applications. Rio emphasizes integrated manufacturing, maintaining control over key components including hulls, primers, powders, wads, and shot. The Star Team line was developed in collaboration with experienced shooters to support clay target disciplines such as trap, skeet, and sporting clays. This approach reflects a focus on application-specific design and consistent performance across training and competition use.

Common Questions and FAQs

• What is the benefit of a 7/8 oz load?
A 7/8 oz load produces less recoil than heavier payloads, making it suitable for extended shooting sessions.

• Is this suitable for trap and skeet shooting?
Yes, it is designed for clay target disciplines including trap, skeet, and sporting clays.
• What firearms can use this ammunition?
It is intended for 12 gauge shotguns chambered for 2 3/4" shells.
• Does the higher velocity increase recoil?
While velocity is higher, the lighter 7/8 oz payload helps offset recoil compared to heavier loads.
• Is this load appropriate for beginners?
Yes, the reduced recoil profile can make it easier for newer shooters to maintain control and consistency.
