Underwood 224 Valkyrie Ammunition 72 Grain Controlled Chaos Solid Monolithic - 920: This technology was developed in response to an animal control agency’s request for a lead-free bullet that could create extensive wound trauma with minimal pass-through energy. The goal was for the bullet to fragment into numerous particles at a controlled depth, generating multiple wound channels and a large temporary cavity near critical areas like the central nervous system when shot placement is accurate. The agency had previously tested copper matrix frangible projectiles but found that the depth of penetration and particle size did not meet their requirements for effective terminal performance.
This bullet is engineered to penetrate to a specific depth before fracturing as the internal hydraulic pressure surpasses the structural strength of the nose. When it fractures, a sudden release of energy occurs as particles spread outward from the initial trajectory. This energy release and resulting temporary cavity send shockwaves through the target’s circulatory and nervous systems, effectively shutting down these systems immediately.
Controlled Chaos technology differs from Controlled Fracturing technology in that its particles are smaller, with reduced penetration depth and a higher initial energy transfer. These features make it an excellent choice for:
- Varmint hunting
- Animal culling
- Fur hunting
- Personal defense
The nickel-plated brass casings offer multiple advantages, including smoother feeding in all firearm actions, enhanced corrosion resistance compared to traditional brass, improved appearance, and easier cleanup during reloading. Unlike regular brass, nickel-plated casings resist tarnishing even when exposed to leather, moisture, or other materials.
As with all Underwood Ammo products, flash-suppressed powder is used to preserve vision in low-light conditions.
This high-performance ammunition undergoes rigorous field testing with popular, real-world firearms to ensure reliable function under realistic conditions.
This is new-production, non-corrosive ammunition with reloadable, boxer-primed brass cases.
